Vaak zijn deze problemen veroorzaakt door het niet tijdig vervangen van de koppelingsvloeistof. Het koppelingssysteem van dit type Honda Civic en vele andere maken gebruik van een gescheiden systeem waarin remvloeistof zich bevindt. Door de negatieve eigenschap van remvloeistof dat deze vocht aantrekt kan er roestvorming in de koppelingscomponenten komen.
